Onomatopoeia


definition: imitation of a sound made my associatited with its regerent.

Examples: " boom"
                " bam"
                " pow"
                " wam"

Significance: Onomatopoeia is important in poetry because it helps the reader to hear the sounds of explotion or something like that. it make poetry better by adding sounds.

Meter



Definition: pattern of stress and unstressed in a stanza

Example....1.............. 2.................3..............4................ 5 
    Shall.I..|..com.PARE..|..thee.TO..|..a.SUM..|..mer’s DAY?
Significance: it adds rhythm and creates a beat in the poem. it makes poetry better by helping the readers find the meaning of the poem.

rhyme

Definition: identity of some sound in some part, especially the end

Example:brain and gain. 
pledge and ledge.

Significance: it adds some rhyme in the end of then poem. this makes poetry better by giving a poem a repetitive quality by sound without repeating a line or phrase in a poem

Rhythm

Definition: a pattern or irregular pulses

Significance: it adds patterns to the poem. it makes poetry better by adding some rhyme to the poem

Personification

Definition: representing something as a person.

Example: The bees played hine and seek with the flowers as they buzzed one to another.

Significance: personification is important because it describles things like a person. it adds human characteristics to the object.

Imagery

Examples: Though I was on the sheer face of a mountain, the feeling of swinging through the air was euphoric, almost like flying without wings.

Significance: imagery is important in a poem because it helps the reader to imagining pictures while reading the poem. it makes poetry better by adding some more details in the poem using pictures.

simile

Definition: We often use the words as...as and like with similes

Example: His skin was as cold as ice.
                 It felt as hard as rock.
                 She looked as gentle as a lamb.

Significance: Simile is an important pert of poetry because it makes descriptions more emphatic or vivid. it adds like or as.

repetition

Definition: the act of repeating: repeated action, performance, production, or presentation.

Example: WHEN I heard the learn’d astronomer;
When the proofs, the figures, were ranged in columns before me;
When I was shown the charts and the diagrams, to add, divide, and measure them;
When I, sitting, heard the astronomer, where he lectured with much applause in the lecture-room,
How soon, unaccountable, I became tired and sick; 5
Till rising and gliding out, I wander’d off by myself,
In the mystical moist night-air, and from time to time,
Look’d up in perfect silence at the stars

Significance: repetition is important because it repeats the main theme of the poem. it repeats a word many times.

tone

Definition: a particular quality, way of sounding, modulation, or intonation of the voice as expressive of some meaning, feeling, spirit, etc

Example: Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world - The Second Coming by Yeats. Even in this one line, the words anarchy loosed upon the world create a sense of fear and foreboding.

Significance: tone is an important paort of Poetry because it adds the expression if the person in the poem.

Interpretation

Definition: An explanation of the meaning of another's artistic or creative work

Example:
Now for the long years when I could not love you,
I bring in recompense this gift of yearning-
A luminous vase uplifted to the sun,
Blue with the shadows of near-twilight.
Here in its full round symmetry of darkness,
Burning with swift curved flashes bright as tears,
I lift it to the lonely lips that knew
Its slow creation, and thw wheel of sorrow turning.
Take it with hands like faded petals,
White as the moonlight of our garden;
And for the long years when I could not love you
Drink from its amber-coloured night.

Significance: interpretations add artistic or creative work. it makes poetry better by creativity into the poem making it more intersting for readers.

Significance: The speaker is the reader that is reading the poem aloud. it adds an expression that you will have when you read aloud.It makes poetry better by sharing the poem to people who is around that person.

Symbolism: It helps express the subjects meaning. It add emblem, token, or sign.symbols make poetry better by helping the reader understand the poem.

Couplet

 
Definition: a pair of successive lines.


Example: Where-e'er you find "the cooling western breeze,"
In the next line, it "whispers through the trees;"
If crystal streams "with pleasing murmurs creep,"
The reader's threatened (not in vain) with "sleep."



Significance: including couplets is important in a poem because  adds some rhymes. It helps add some rhymes and figurative language. it make poetry better by making it better for kids to read and inspire them to read more because of the rhymes (maybe)

Stanza

Deffinition: Stanza is an arrangement of four or more lines.

Example: “Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?”

Significance: It lets you write a poem in a paragrph. It helps add  rythem to the poem. It can form a division in a poem.
